It was only a matter of time before two of our favourite aesthetics collided to give us one stunner of a haircut: the mob bob.

Just like the old money aesthetic ruled 2023, TikTok's trending mob wife aesthetic is the moment for 2024. It taps up the same glamour of its predecessor, but throws in a whole heap of sass on top. Because, make no mistake, the mob wife brief is not about being understated. Instead, it's an unashamed celebration of all things maximalist (so you best have the statement scent and chunky gold jewellery to go with it).

Alongside animal print and designer accessories, one core trademark of the mob wife aesthetic is the show-stopper blow dry. We're talking hair that gives sexy swish and volume, and a style that takes up space just because it can.

In general, since more is more, we've seen the style worn on longer lengths, but we've seen full voluminous hair, merge with shorter lengths for a chop that blends mob wife with bob life.

What is the mob bob?

The mob bob takes the swish and volume of mob wife hair, but translates it into a shorter bob length. Setting out the trend on TikTok, hair stylist and educator Faye Redfern explained: “The mob wife haircut is a take on a really chunky, ‘90s bob. [There’s] a lot of fullness on the ends […] a lot of swing in the blow dry, so it looks really fun and curved.”

And manifestation coach and influencer, Nadia Khaled, took us behind the scenes of her mob bob, after visiting her hair stylist who 100% understood the assignment. “This is literally the definition of mob wife. The flowiness. The VOLUME. This is giving everything it needed to give,” she said.

How to style the mob bob?

Since volume is such a feature, flipped partings are an easy win. “A deep side part [will] get that really dramatic Hollywood wave,” said Faye. “A middle part is a little more modern, whereas if you want that full-glamour mob wife haircut, I'd definitely flip it to the side,” she said.

As for styling, this is where your blow dryer and round brush have some heavy lifting to do, but you can fake it with a hot wand, too. “All [mob bobs] have this really cool wing.” explained Faye, pointing to the flipped and flicked shape. “I would get a wide barrel tong and curl it backwards to get that fullness,” she advises.
