It’s (nearly) the most wonderful time of the year, which means just one thing: it’s officially time to re-watch Love Actually

If you’re a die-hard fan of the film, you probably have a favourite scene, and it’s likely to be the Hugh Grant dancing down the staircase scene, no? Of course it is.

Well, nearly 20 years on from the film’s release, Grant has revealed that was the scene he “dreaded” filming.

The iconic ensemble Christmas film from 2003 recently celebrated its 19th birthday and the stars are gearing up to appear in a 20th anniversary special called, The Laughter & Secrets Of Love Actually: 20 Years Later – A Diane Sawyer Special, which will air on ABC in the US.

A clip from the special shows Grant making the revelation that he didn’t have that much fun filming the dancing scene, actually.

“I saw it in the script and I thought, ‘Well, I’ll hate doing that’. I didn’t fancy doing the dance at all, let alone rehearsing it,” the 62-year-old said.

The scene sees Grant in his role as Prime Minister dancing down a staircase and through the halls of 10 Downing Street to The Pointer Sisters’ “Jump (For My Love)”.

Director Richard Curtis, who also appears in the special alongside stars like Emma Thompson and Bill Nighy, said Grant “kept saying no” when the idea to film the scene was first introduced. He added that Grant was rather grumpy on the day of filming the scene but went through with it because it was a “contractual obligation”.

“I’m out of rhythm, by the way, especially at the beginning when I wiggle my a**,” Grant explained, adding: “And to this day, there are many people – and I agree with them – who think it’s the most excruciating scene ever committed to celluloid. But then some people like it!”

They certainly do Hugh, they certainly do.
