The Paris Olympics may have ended, but another highly anticipated competition is coming up soon.

Netflix has released the trailer for its upcoming Labor Day showdown between Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi. The preview teases a “legendary beef,” where the two competitive eating legends will “go head-to-head for the first time in 15 years, in a rematch where the winner takes all.” The event, titled Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, is set to take place at the HyperX Arena Las Vegas at the Luxor Hotel & Casino, airing live on the streaming platform on Sept. 2 at 12 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. ET.

Joey Chestnut, who holds the world record for eating 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes, will have a shot at redemption after being banned from Nathan’s Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest following a six-time reign. The ban was a result of Chestnut signing an endorsement deal with Impossible Foods.

In a statement shared on social media, Chestnut clarified the situation: “I do not have a contract with MLE or Nathan’s, and they are looking to change the rules from past years as it relates to other partners I can work with. This is apparently the basis on which I’m being banned, and it doesn’t impact the July 4th contest.”

Takeru Kobayashi, one of the most recognizable names in competitive eating, will also have his chance to reclaim the record that was once his.

As a rookie in 2001, Takeru Kobayashi entered Nathan’s Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest and nearly doubled the previous record by consuming 50 hot dogs in 12 minutes, setting a world record. He went on to win the contest six times consecutively, dominating the competition until 2007 when Joey Chestnut defeated him, eating 66 hot dogs to Kobayashi’s 63. Kobayashi continued to compete in various eating contests and in 2009, he defeated Chestnut at the Krystal Square Off World Hamburger Eating Championship by eating 93 hamburgers.

In 2011, Kobayashi set a new world record by eating 69 hot dogs in a live-streamed solo event. The record-setting event was held in protest after he was barred from competing in Nathan’s annual July 4th competition due to a contract dispute with Major League Eating, the organization that oversees the contest. A decade later, Joey Chestnut surpassed this record during the 2021 Nathan’s contest by consuming 76 hot dogs.
